The first day of spring is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate the sunshine than with our Spring Reading Recommendations!
This week at Sentence Center,
students practiced informative writing with a focus on the spaces and places they knew well. We discussed the importance of not only stating what something is but also why it matters and learned a lot more about the treasured objects that fill our writers’ lives. Creative Writers focused on the six types of conflict in literature, breaking down famous works before using those same tools in their own stories.
Weekly writing tip:
Part of being a successful writer is digging deeper than the surface-level descriptions. Writers can use the word “because” to remind themselves to add further detail and explain why something is fun, awesome, or gross.
Happy Writing,
Ms. Margaret

Some highlights from recent student writing:
The on-screen calculator was a game-changer because it allowed for quick and easy number input. For example, I could just type the number in like a sentence, instead of having to click each button on the real calculator, which took a lot of time. Another advantage of the on-screen calculator was that it had pi as a symbol on it. This was a huge relief because on the real calculator, I had to use 3.14 for pi, which didn’t always get me the right answer.

My sister did most of the hard work while I was there, just showing her the four images that she needed to draw, which wasn’t that much, and playing music. Eventually, she managed to pull it off and left the project there, looking like we robbed an art museum and put up the art we stole.

We went down the first hill, I had forgotten how to stop. My dad started yelling “Pizza!!!”. I immediately did the pizza. I guess I was going too fast, and when I did the pizza I almost flipped over.
